Electronic Check Verification

Check Verification is an electronic system whereby a merchant can verify that a particular check writer does or does not have unresolved NSF items in a particular negative database. The negative database is a "who's who" of bad check writers. Merchants use credit card terminals or special check readers to check the negative database for check writers who have written an NSF check at ANY of the contributing merchant locations. Merchants have the option to include a "velocity" tracking feature with check verification. Velocity tracks a combination of variables and provides "trip wires" that can help minimize a merchant's exposure to the intentional bad check writer.
